The Guidelines for the Use of Aboriginal Languages is a document created for public servants and other professionals to promote best practice when working with Aboriginal Languages in NSW. Djinjama was brought onto the project by Aboriginal Outcomes Directorate in collaboration with NSW Aboriginal Languages Trust to research and draft the Guidelines. We provided a preliminary review of consultation outcomes and undertook interviews with nominated Language Practitioners to ensure the Guidelines were culturally informed. Djinjama worked to ensure they included the complexities involved with Language use and was written in a manner that maintained Cultural integrity and truthtelling whilst being succinct and user friendly.
Djinjama honours our connections to Country, community, culture and kin through our work. Djinjama’s projects actively interact with lands, waters and air, and as such we actively protect the rights of Country to be healthy in our work. We respect Traditional Custodians who have long cared for Country and aim to elevate First Voices in all our work. We are grateful to Elders and Knowledge Holders for their continued sharing of wisdom, story, language, and knowledge.
