The State Government is pursuing housing reform to assist with the delivery of additional housing in the Inner West of Sydney. Along with the Inner West Council, they are working to develop Master Plans that will provide equal or greater housing outcomes surrounding Ashfield, Croydon, Dulwich Hill, and Marrickville stations. Djinjama was brought onto the project to provide cultural information and Country centred recommendations to the Inner West Housing Master Plans. Mirroring the project criteria, we developed a Country and Culture Opportunities report with recommendations based on cultural research and engagement with local community members. We also provided peer review and design provocation for the design team to inform the Master Plans and identify opportunities to integrate positive outcomes for Country throughout the project.
Djinjama honours our connections to Country, community, culture and kin through our work. Djinjama’s projects actively interact with lands, waters and air, and as such we actively protect the rights of Country to be healthy in our work. We respect Traditional Custodians who have long cared for Country and aim to elevate First Voices in all our work. We are grateful to Elders and Knowledge Holders for their continued sharing of wisdom, story, language, and knowledge.
