Djinjama was brought onto the Sydney Metro West Line project to establish a Country centred connection to the project. Using this approach, Djinjama engaged with the Connecting with Country Working Group through workshops and yarns to ensure deep listening and establish connection to Country. Continued engagement informed cultural research and the development of Reading of Country Recommendations resulting in a Designing with Country framework for each station across the entire line. Djinjama was able to bring Country Centred Design Approaches to the project, establishing principles, values and recommendations for all stations that originate with Country and culture, guiding the design team and providing peer review to ensure the continuing care of Country. This guidance establishes foundational guidance for the next stages of the project.
Djinjama honours our connections to Country, community, culture and kin through our work. Djinjama’s projects actively interact with lands, waters and air, and as such we actively protect the rights of Country to be healthy in our work. We respect Traditional Custodians who have long cared for Country and aim to elevate First Voices in all our work. We are grateful to Elders and Knowledge Holders for their continued sharing of wisdom, story, language, and knowledge.
